We are changing how we do things here at the MCA and as a result, we have an exciting new role in our team based in Dover for a VTS Team Leader. You will be leading and managing a team of operators responsible for the delivery of the VTS operations within the defined areas of the Channel Navigation Information Service and Sunk VTS.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Accountable to the VTS Manager for the operational delivery and oversight of VTS operations.
  • Providing leadership and direction to a team of VTSOs.
  • Work collaboratively with peers and to provide the VTS Manager with a regularly updated analysis of the risk picture for their delegated area of responsibility.
  • Reviewing performance on VTS incidents, exercises and other operations.
  • Managing the effective provision of a vessel traffic service for their Area of operation.
  • Responsible for reviewing management information systems for their teams and amending resource allocation as necessary.
  • Ensuring that a culture of safety is maintained at all times.
  • Participate in investigations.
  • Responsible for the management for VTS Operators within their operational teams.
  • Planning, prioritising, and managing workload.
  • Balancing work against resource where assessed as necessary.
  • Provision of accurate management information as required to inform the Divisional Management Team.
  • Undertake training to meet the ODP leadership and management Level 3.
  • Undertake training to meet the V103/2 VTS Supervisor and V103/4 On-Job-Training Instructor.

About you 

You will come to us with a extensive knowledge and understanding of either HMCG – VTS Operations, VTS – Port Operations, or Officer of the Watch – radar operations.

You will hold the following qualifications, or be willing to work towards these whilst in the role: V103/1 VTS Operator holder including appropriate V103/3 Local Knowledge Endorsement for Channel Navigation Information Service and working towards obtaining the Local Knowledge Endorsement for Sunk VTS.
