The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) are looking for a capable leader who can demonstrate all the right qualities to make this unusual and high-profile role a success.
This is a unique and challenging role where you will represent the Secretary of State for Transport and the Secretary of State for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS) by removing or reducing the risk to safety and the environment arising from accidents at sea.
You will also be part of the MCA’s leadership team and have a chance to inspire changes in the agency. We will look for you to bring strong leadership capabilities and drive integrity, fairness and consistency at all times.
There are three main aspects to the SOSREP remit:
- Operational oversight and management of incidents as they occur
- Planning for the future; constantly evolving policies and processes with key stakeholders (MCA, BEIS and the Department for Transport) and other bodies in the UK and overseas
- Lead and develop the SOSREP function within the MCA.

You will need excellent organisational skills and will thrive managing and prioritising a heavy workload. You will be a focussed and calm person who can get the job done regardless of the environment you are in.
You are self-assured as a natural communicator and able to hold your own during challenging conversations with a diverse audience. You will also have the confidence to appear and participate in press and media interviews if the situation requires.
The role holder can be based in either Southampton or Aberdeen but there will be significant travel to the other site as and when needed.
