Who are we?

The Royal Fleet Auxiliary is a Merchant Navy organisation that is made up of civilian-crewed ships operated by the Ministry of Defence. It provides vital – and highly valued – logistical and operational support to the Royal Navy and Royal Marines as well as allied nations. A committed team of personnel makes sure the Royal Navy and Royal Marines are well supplied and well supported, providing medical care, transporting military equipment, fuel and other essentials all over the world. In addition, the RFA provides humanitarian aid, undertakes counter piracy patrols, counter narcotic operations, defence diplomacy together with assisting in preventing conflict or safeguarding the flow of international trade as single units.


The Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) is looking for Qualified Marine Engineers and System Engineers (ETOs) as well as experienced Deck Officers.

Contract type: Permanent

Salary: Starting salary from £35, 954 per annum, dependent on experience.

Team: Royal Fleet Auxiliary.

Start Date: February 2021 at Britannia Royal Naval College Dartmouth.

Rotation: 4 months on, 3 months off.


Marine Engineer – EOOW CoC (Unlimitied) or above and a HND or FD.

Systems Engineer – ETO CoC or a HND/Fd or higher in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Deck Officer – OOW CoC (Unlimited) or above and a HND or FD.

All Branches – In date ENG1 and relevant STCW certification.
