Job Opportunity Aboard Paddle Steamer Waverley
This is an exciting opportunity to take Command of Waverley.
We are looking to build our team of relief masters to operate Waverley in 2021 with the opportunity to return in future seasons. Successful candidates must hold a 11/2 3,000 GT CoC and have extensive ship handling experience. Candidates will be highly motivated, enthusiastic with excellent leadership and bridge team management skills. An ability to work under pressure is essential for this position.
Waverley operates with 25 crew carrying up to 860 passengers offering a variety of day, afternoon, and evening cruises in several areas around the UK coast including the Firth of Clyde, West Coast of Scotland, North Wales, Bristol Channel, South Coast and Thames. It is anticipated that Waverley will operate at a reduced passenger capacity during the 2021 season due to Covid restrictions.
In 2020 a major £2.3m refit saw Waverley’s steam and electric generation plants replaced to ensure the longevity of the vessel. Waverley is driven by a triple expansion reciprocating steam engine directly connected to both paddle wheels. As the last seagoing paddle steamer in the World, she is a unique vessel to command and operate.
The Master is supported in their roll by a Senior Master and permanent bridge officers who have operated the ship over several seasons.
To apply for this post please email a CV and covering letter to email@example.com Please include details on previous commands and your availability this season between June and October.
