Key focus areas for Interislander and the Professional Head Manager role is to: improve safety; build a high performance integrated team aligned with KiwiRail’s group vision; achieve budget and commercial outcomes; ensure we sustain on-time- performance and reliability through effective asset management and application of resources; plus, help design, transition and transformation of the business for the new ships and terminals.
Reporting to our Executive General Manager Interislander, the Professional Head Manager is a strategic senior leadership role that will lead our centre of excellence for marine and engineering technical disciplines for our current fleet. The role will also be the central point where InterIslander’s asset management and capital expenditure for the current fleet is managed with associated best practice to be established and maintained in these areas (particularly for maintenance plans, Dry Docks and other Lay-Ups).
A vital part of the role is maintaining our Safety Management System (SMS) plus ensuring technical and safety compliance (though monitoring and audits).
An underlying requirement of the of the position is to ensure fit-for-purpose, pragmatic and commercial safety/technical outcomes to ensure our current fleet remains reliable until they are replaced. The position will also have a key role in helping define, design and accept the new fleet.
As part of the Interislander Senior Leadership Team it is expected you will be integral to building a high performance culture plus ensuring all parts of the business are integrated and working effectively.
We are seeking a seasoned professional leader attuned to enabling and supporting a reliable operation. You will have a solid focus on safety, operational, technical excellence and people leadership. You will be the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) so a marine background is essential. You will have proven ability deliver sound asset management outcomes, project delivery and be able to demonstrate technical/regulatory compliance management in a previous similar environment. While this position is predominantly a shore based role, there will be the requirement to travel on the ships regularly.
