Are you an experienced Marine Surveyor with an in-depth knowledge of Port State Control and ship audit and inspection procedures?

As Head of Maritime Safety & Security Management, you will lead and direct a team of operational policy leads and advisors to develop and deliver effective maritime safety policy, procedures and advice.

You will play a pivotal role in ensuring we meet our obligations in UK and international waters with oversight of consistent policies for ISM-ISO and Maritime Labour operations.

About the role

You will play a pivotal part in ensuring we meet our obligations in UK and international waters with oversight of consistent policies for ISM-ISO and Maritime Labour operations.

Your duties will include:

  • managing the Maritime Safety Management Operations Branch
  • maintaining operational liaison with operational and technical teams
  • providing policy support for Marine Office Surveyors
  • implementing the requirements of international and domestic legislation as it relates to the ISM Code
  • implementing the requirements of domestic legislation as it relates to the DSM Code
  • ensuring ISM, DSM and MCA Quality Assurance (MCQA) Certification Management System audits comply with domestic and international commitments
  • representing the UK and providing technical support at internal and external meetings, including drafting and presentation of substantive papers

About you

You are a qualified Marine Surveyor with maritime industry experience, and an in-depth knowledge of Port State Control, ship audit and inspection procedures, and ISM, DSM and ISO standards.

You have the resilience, expertise and confidence to handle the unexpected, effectively support our Surveyors, and represent the MCA and the UK at home and internationally.
