Job title: Communications Assistant
Reporting to: Communications Manager
Contract: One-year internship / fixed term contract
Location: Wallasey
Salary: £20,000-£22,000 per annum
Job role
The one-year fixed term contract is an exciting new opportunity for a creative and hardworking individual looking for a well-rounded introduction to professional communications.
The Communications Assistant will shadow comms team members to learn the job role, while supporting the wider team. You can expect to gain hands-on experience in internal and external comms, PR and journalism.
Key accountabilities:
- Compile and distribute daily media monitoring service
- Research, write, edit and post content online and in print as required
- Assist communications team to build social communities for Nautilus members
- Assist in the development and ongoing management of internal (email and intranet) communications
- Identify opportunities for collaborations with members / partner organisations and other unions via social / online media
- Handle incoming calls; post and email communications, directing them to the most appropriate team member
- Attend and report on industry events as required
- Attend and report on Nautilus Council, General and other meetings as required
- Perform any other duty as directed by the Head of Communications / General Secretary
Ideal experience, attitude and interests
- Graduate level (or equivalent) education or training with interest in PR, communications or journalism
- Interest in learning about the maritime industry
- Interest in the Trade Union movement
- Deeply embedded in social media platforms
- Working knowledge of Content Management Systems (CMS)
- News, blogging, features or any other writing experience
- Excellent time-keeping
- You are a confident go-getter with a ‘can-do’ attitude
- Can work independently and as part of a team
