Hydrogeology is the study of underground water. A huge proportion of global drinking water comes from the ground and it is up to hydrogeologists to find it, test it and make sure we don’t extract too much.

Hydrogeologists are often employed by water companies or consultancies. Their work will often include ground investigation surveys, collecting field data and modelling subsurface water flow.

Hydrogeologists can also work to remediate contaminated areas of land or with ecologists.
