Trainee Humber Pilot
Applications are invited for the position of Marine Pilot with ABP Humber Estuary Services.
ABP is the UK’s leading port operator, with a unique network of 21 ports across England, Scotland and Wales. Our ports include Immingham, the UKs busiest port and Southampton, the nation’s second largest and Europe’s most efficient container port, as well as the UK’s number one for cars and cruise. The group's other activities include rail terminal operations (Hams Hall Rail Terminal), ship's agency, dredging (UK Dredging Ltd), and marine consultancy (ABPmer). Each port also offers a well-established community of port service providers.
The Humber is the UK’s busiest commercial waterway with a diverse range of shipping from coasters to VLCC’s and employs in excess of 100 Marine Pilots.
Pilots are rostered for 11 days on duty followed by 7 days off duty completing, on average, 1 act of pilotage per day. In addition, pilots have 25 consecutive days off duty every 198 days.
Applicants should possess an STCW II/2 Master or Chief Mates certificate of competency but more importantly an enthusiastic and motivated approach to learning a large and complex district.
